Chapter 1919 - Shadow Fiend!
Edited by: Michyrr
With no time to think, Wang Chong raised his head and sharply cried out, “You go up first! It’s dangerous here!”
At this moment, the air trembled as the five human-shaped monsters and the giant fire snakes lunged toward Wang Chong.
Fwoosh! Several dozen fire snakes opened their mouths and fired gouts of searing flame at Wang Chong.
But the five human-shaped monsters moved even faster.
Swish! The five scythes sliced through the air from five different directions, each as fast as a lightning bolt.
If struck, Wang Chong would probably be instantly sliced into five.
“Success! Hurry!” the Nightmare Beast suddenly called out in Wang Chong’s mind.
Boom! Wang Chong called out the Heavenly Mandate Battle Armor, exploded with Stellar Energy, and rocketed upward.
Clang! Clang! Two of the scythes bounced off the Heavenly Mandate Battle Armor, but Wang Chong managed to dodge the others.
Down below, the battle did not stop simply because Wang Chong had shot into the air. Bereft of their target, not only did the human-shaped monsters not pursue, they began to attack each other.
Metal shrieked against metal as the scythes collided, the human-shaped monsters madly slashing and slicing.
Thud! Thud! It wasn’t long before the human-shaped monsters had beheaded each other and dropped to the ground.
Only one was left standing, but it was also heavily injured. Soon, it dropped to the ground, the black smoke around it fading away.
The Nightmare Beast’s immense Psychic Energy and natural abilities had finally taken effect.
While Wang Chong had been fighting, the Nightmare Beast had been attempting to find the weakness in these human-shaped monsters. Finally, it had succeeded.
“Don’t let it die! I need to see its memories!” Wang Chong called out just when the human-shaped monster was about to roll into the lava.
Buzz!
The heavily injured monster’s body that was just about to jump into the lava went stiff and then slowly kneeled.
Wang Chong descended from the sky and landed in front of it.
Mental control and reading memories were two completely different abilities. The latter required a far finer control and would deal more damage to the recipient.
Buzz!
Wang Chong reached out and placed his hand on the back of the monster’s head. His eyes flashed as he sent his Psychic Energy rumbling into its mind.
As the Nightmare Beast had already broken in, Wang Chong encountered barely any resistance, only a sliver at the core.
The core containing its memories was only the size of a sesame seed, but it was surrounded by a steely sealing energy.
“I tried to probe this area earlier, but as it had nothing to do with controlling its body and solely concerned memories, I put it aside,” the Nightmare Beast told Wang Chong.
The Nightmare Beast relied purely on its natural talents to devour memories, but it was somewhat lacking when facing special seals added by formidable Psychic Energy practitioners, only able to use brute force. Wang Chong was much more flexible in this aspect.
“What an ancient seal!”
Wang Chong half-closed his eyes and quickly understood the nature of this sealing energy. This was an ancient psychic art called the ‘Ring of Musa’. It was lost in the current era and almost completely unknown, but in the High Priest’s memories, Wang Chong had found information on the Ring of Musa, including the way to undo it, though it was not complete.
Wang Chong immediately began to form his Psychic Energy into a golden ring covered with complex symbols. The ring trembled before rapidly shrinking into the monster’s mind.
Thump! Wang Chong managed to create a gap in the Ring of Musa for a few moments, allowing him to enter.
It’s a fragmented mind!
A thought suddenly occurred to Wang Chong.
The memories within the Ring of Musa were in tatters, but they all concerned the lives of these monsters.
Wang Chong quickly sent his mind into a mental fragment.
“Ah!”
There was a great shout, and then Wang Chong saw countless figures wearing long white robes. They appeared both similar and dissimilar to Arabs, and they spoke in frantic and anxious tones in a language much older than Arabic.
In another direction, Wang Chong saw the human-shaped monster that he was currently controlling.
No! This isn’t some monster, but a pure human!
There appeared to be some conflict between the two sides that had everyone enraged.
Just when the two sides were about to fight, the crowd suddenly parted. Several white-robed men had seized a beautiful veiled woman before the man Wang Chong was controlling. The woman was on the verge of tears, and the man himself felt a deep sorrow.
Wang Chong seemed to understand what was going on.
“Ah!”
A moment later, the scene shifted as Wang Chong viewed another mental fragment.
It was a room built of metal. Torches had been planted on the wall, illuminating the numerous white skeletons on the ground. Wang Chong saw the man howling and screaming, four chains having bound his limbs to a large bed made of Deep Sea Xuan Metal.
A man who appeared to be some sort of shaman was holding a special knife. He was carving symbols on the man’s back while muttering chants. A wriggling black substance was seeping out of the knife and into the man’s body, and wisps of black mist were rising out of his body and slowly engulfing him.
A Shadow Fiend!
Wang Chong suddenly learned the name of this bizarre human-shaped monster.
It was a special method of creating a guardian, and judging from the bones on the ground, it had a high rate of failure. This man had been one of the ‘lucky’ ones, or perhaps he was unlucky.
The memories after that were in even greater shambles, the scenes growing more and more indistinct.
After some time, Wang Chong released his palm, allowing the human-shaped monster to fall to the ground.
By breaking the Ring of Musa, Wang Chong had also broken the core that had maintained its life. This ancient human had naturally lost its ability to survive, given all the time that had passed.
Wang Chong had not managed to gain much information from those chaotic memories, but he had still found some useful clues.
“Now let’s see what sort of secrets are hidden down here!”
Wang Chong quickly flew over the lava flows, and a few moments later, he reached the edge of the region. He focused his energy on his foot and stomped down at a certain place in the lava.
Boom!
At the start, this stomp only caused the lava to seethe, but a moment later, a mighty boom came from deep within the earth.
A few moments later, a metal pillar with a diameter of around half a meter began to rise from the lava.
The metal pillar was covered in dazzling and gorgeous inscriptions. Moreover, as the pillar rose, a mysterious energy began to flow through the air, calming the restless lava.
Wang Chong did not pause, but proceeded to the other three corners of the pyramid and did the same. With a great rumble, four pillars of identical size but made of different metals emerged in the southeast, southwest, northeast, and northwest.
Bang!
Wang Chong slapped one of the metal pillars, upon which gears began to click. A moment later, vast torrents of energy surged into the four pillars.
Soon after that, a massive, fiery barrier took form around the four pillars, and pushed away the surrounding lava.
Wang Chong scanned the area and quickly found a door within the barrier.
The seal has already lost effect. This was probably Khatabah’s doing when he first ventured into this place, Wang Chong quietly said to himself.
It was obvious that Wang Chong was not the first guest to this place.
Having defeated the guardians, Wang Chong was no longer in any danger. He swiftly entered the doorway within the fiery barrier.
The bottom of the well was hot and awash with flames, but when Wang Chong passed through the door, he found the interior to be cool and refreshing.
It’s an ancient ruin! This is what was truly left behind by that ancient civilization! Wang Chong remarked to himself.
As he slowly descended from the air, he allowed the luminescent pearl in his hand to float upward and illuminate his surroundings.
This was a massive underground cavern, its walls made of some hard rock that appeared like jade. This rock was further reinforced by a formation, allowing it to persist despite the many years.
During Wang Chong’s slow descent, he spotted a massive metal sphere in the center of the cavern, and then he noticed that the walls were covered in countless words and murals.
Nobody alive could understand the words, but he could still look at the murals.
