Chapter 409: You’re the Only One I’ll Love in This Lifetime (2)
Li Zhiwei couldn’t understand why he would be so fixated on Ye Linlang who was already dead.
Xie Xuning shook his head and replied, “No, she might not be dead.”
“What?” Li Zhiwei gasped in surprise. “Brother Xuning, you mean she’s not dead?”
“Yes, my wife is still alive. She’s well alive.”
Xie Xuning felt certain that Ye Linlang must still be alive.
‘She must be alive somewhere in this world
‘It’s fine if she doesn’t want to forgive me or seek me out.
‘I’ll look for her.
‘Life could be short and long at the same time.
‘We have many decades ahead to spend together,’ he thought.
“Is she truly alive?”
Xie Xuning crossed his arms behind his back. When his gaze landed on a youth who was holding onto a bunch of roses in the park, his expression softened.
Red roses were her favorite flowers for they looked passionate and bold.
“Yes, she is.”
After Xie Xuning said this, he then strode off once again.
‘He left,’ Li Zhiwei thought.
But she did not try to chase him anymore.
Her legs were already void of strength.
She could only watch as he exited from her world without hesitation.
From then on, her world would be but a plot of barren land.
After a long time had passed, Li Zhiwei finally took out her phone and called Qie Wang.
“Brother Wang, I heard from Brother Xuning that Ye Linlang’s not dead. Is this for real?” she asked with feigned composure.
“Yes. I’ve checked the ashes in Ye Linlang’s urn and those weren’t the ashes of a woman,” he confirmed.
In a trembling voice, Li Zhiwei argued, “But this couldn’t prove that...” Her voice trailed off. ‘This couldn’t prove that she’s still alive,’ she thought.
“Someone told Xuning that Ye Linlang is still alive. Xuning, too, wanted to believe that she is,” Qie Wang explained. “Beyond that, Xie Xuning also asked me to conduct a paternity test for him and a girl named Ye Tianxin.”
...
“Elder Brother Li, the dumpling soup sold in this restaurant is delicious,” Ye Tianxin remarked.
Holding onto a small white plate, she began to drink the soup.
It was fresh and did not have a fishy taste.
All sorts of flavors were mixed in the soup.
However, they complimented each other to form a strangely harmonious flavor.
“Have more of it if you like,” Li Qingcang urged.
A mild, sweet, warm feeling began to grow in his heart.
‘This doesn’t feel bad,’ he thought.
“I can’t stomach any more of these,” Ye Tianxin declared.
She then flashed him a grin of satisfaction.
Li Qingcang felt like his heart was bursting with joy when he saw her radiant smile, and his heart began to thump wildly.
He couldn’t help but feel like an idiot when he recalled how he had mistaken his heart palpitations as signs of a heart condition back then and had specifically consulted Qie Wang to get his heart checked.
He liked Ye Tianxin.
One’s heart would race when one was in love.
This was what the world termed as ‘crush’.
‘Why couldn’t I figure out something so simple back then?’ he wondered.
“It’s alright. I could always bring you here again when you feel like having it.”
Li Qingcang held Ye Tianxin’s hand and interlocked his fingers with hers. The moment their fingers touched, he felt as though a current was coursing through his whole body, and it made him go soft and limp. It felt comfortable, but, at the same time, he couldn’t help but yearn for more.
“Elder Brother Li...”
Li Qingcang placed a finger on her red lips.
“I think you should change how you address me,” he remarked.
‘If she continues to call me Elder Brother Li, it would seem as if she’s my sister.’
“Then what should I call you?” Ye Tianxin asked.
‘I couldn’t possibly call him Qingcang!’ she thought and frowned.
