Chapter 763 - Bait
Chapter 763: Bait
Separating and joining together again and again, the Divine Beast Blackscaled Axeblade was like a machine that never stopped. It was a massive beast that could combine into a body of more than one hundred kilometers and then come apart like the numerous cars of a train, constantly and unpredictably shifting.
The Blackscaled Axeblade’s attacks were very simple. It simply used its body to constantly crash and slam into its foes!
Such a simple and crude attack method proved highly effective. After all, his body was so tough that it shrugged off the attacks of more than one thousand people. While others could not hurt him, if he struck others, the results were catastrophic.
Xia Fei’s group used the chaos to escape the battle and flee. The Demon Race warriors were in no mood to care about him. Their backbone, Sezsny, had already left. As such, the remaining warriors were practically helpless and at their wits’ end.
Xia Fei very quickly led the three women out of the fiery-red canyon, placing them at the base of a large mountain.
“Alright, all of you wait here. I’m going back to see the situation,” Xia Fei sternly said. Glancing at Blackie and Whitey, he said, “I’ll leave this place to you two.”
Blackie nodded in agreement. He knew that Xia Fei was still thinking about that thing Sezsny was looking for. Without Moon Song and the others around, Xia Fei could go into battle with less of a burden and find out what was going on.
Grabbing Xiaoyu’s hand, Xia Fei implored, “Go east. I’ll catch up with you.”
Without waiting for a reply, Xia Fei vanished and merely left a long trail of dust behind.
...
After ensuring that Xiaoyu’s group was safe and ordering the two birds to guard them, Xia Fei returned to the battlefield with Furball.
*Pa!*
Xia Fei opened the spatial ring and reconnected with Oro.
“What are you up to? Why did you suddenly close the ring?” Oro complained.
Xia Fei did not explain too much to him, only that two divine beasts, which were pets of two old friends, had suddenly appeared, and he worried that they would discover Oro.
“It seems like I really can’t keep you by my side. This is getting very unsafe. If someone finds out that I’m colluding with the Demon Race, there’ll be severe consequences, and I might even drag in the Skywing Clan,” Xia Fei said with a frown.
Oro was very gratified. Xia Fei had finally made up his mind to kill him, meaning that he could be reborn and once more have a complete life.
After a pause, Oro grimly said, “We already made an agreement. I’m naturally happy if you plan to release me early, but you’d better not play any tricks and try to use that wicked dagger that sucks essence blood to kill me.”
Xia Fei was taken aback. “So the Blood Crystal works on you?”
“Of course!” Oro said, his complexion pale. “Without Blood Crystal, you would’ve never been able to kill Quinn. After all, he had cultivated the Law of Life as well. Even I would be helpless against the Blood Crystal. That wicked dagger is just too strange.”
Xia Fei had not imagined that the Blood Crystal would work on a bigshot like Oro, but this was good news. In the future, if he ran into another undying monster like Oro, Xia Fei would have the means to make them vanish without a trace.
*Whoosh~*
As they were talking, Xia Fei returned to the red canyon. Countless Demon Race warriors had died, and no more than one hundred were still barely hanging in there. Like ants in a hotpot, they had been completely surrounded by the Blackscaled Axeblade.
As he swept his gaze over the battlefield, Xia Fei discovered that the culprit behind all this, the Law Overlord Sezsny from the Darkpearl Clan, was already gone.
“Oh no! We got fooled!” Xia Fei grimly said. “Whether it was the Demon Race warriors or us, we were all used as bait by Sezsny. This scoundrel might have already taken advantage of the chaos to get whatever he wanted!”
Oro nodded, saying, “That’s very possible. This red canyon might have been his goal, and he brought all these people here simply to draw that monster’s attention.”
Gritting his teeth, Xia Fei was somewhat hesitant over his next move.
The strangest place here would be the numerous holes in the red mountain. If he had to point out a place where treasure might be hidden, the cave system was the ideal location. Logically speaking, Xia Fei should pursue this lead, but that mechanical monster was right there, and if he ventured into its nest, he would find it very hard to get out.
Suddenly! As Xia Fei was thinking about what to do, the ground shuddered as if a subway train was rushing toward him!
“It’s coming!” Xia Fei cried out, pushing his observation abilities to maximum and taking in his surroundings.
Rumble!
An enormous erupted from the earth right under Xia Fei’s feet!
This was only a part of the Blackscaled Axeblade’s body. It had no head and had an extremely simple structure, like a giant metal pipe moving at high speed!
“Falling Leaves of Autumn’s Demise!”
Xia Fei knew that he would have to fight a battle with this monster eventually. Since the Blood Crystal couldn’t penetrate its body, he could only use the Law of Primal Chaos!
As Xia Fei retreated, he thrust out his palm!
Beng!
There was a heavy thump as several nearly imperceptible cracks spread along the Axeblade Darkscale’s body.
“It works! He can’t take on the power of the Law of Primal Chaos!”
Upon realizing this, Xia Fei thrust out his palm three more times! They seemed soft and gentle, but they were infused with a power that could reverse all!
But the Blackscaled Axeblade was no ordinary divine beast. Even though Xia Fei had broken its bones and tendons, it would not scream. With the same rumbling stand, like a train that never stopped, he continued to move along through his formidable body.
Any high-ranked Divine Beast or Holy Beast had their specialty. Just like how Furball could devour and use energy, the Blackscaled Axeblade had a freakish and tyrannical ability to resist attacks!
Injuring the Blackscaled Axeblade was far from enough, for it had more than a thousand different body segments. Injuring one segment was far from enough to take his life!
The rumbling train began to accelerate. It seemed that Xia Fei’s attack had earned him the rage of the divine beast.
*Thump thump thump!*
Several dozen body segments appeared, surrounding Xia Fei and crashing on him!
This was truly a bizarre sight. A human being pursued by a pack of train cars? Not even in movies would one see something so strange!
The Falling Leaves of Autumn’s Demise was a Law of Primal Chaos technique, and while it could injure the Blackscaled Axeblade, it could not be used too many times in a row. After all, it took a significant amount of energy. Though Xia Fei had accumulated quite a lot of essence in his seventh brain region from the Law Emperors he had killed, Xia Fei wanted to leave this energy for a critical moment.
Furball bellowed and charged at one of the Blackscaled Axeblade’s body segments. He surrounded his body with energy and then shot forward like a cannonball!
*Bang!*
The Holy Beast and Divine Beast bounced away from each other. Furball had finally met his match! The Blackscaled Axeblade’s body was so tough that not even Furball could do anything to him.
Xia Fei used his agile movement techniques and speed to dodge left and right. Peacock Blue served as a protective umbrella, its five blades of grass turning Xia Fei’s right arm into a giant octopus that could move as he desired.
Xia Fei was wholly capable of ensuring that he was not hurt, but there was no way he could kill this monster. He was in a stalemate.
Suddenly!
The Blackscaled Axeblade suddenly froze. He seemingly sensed a mysterious summons from deep in the earth, and part of his body began to burrow underground!
“Not good! Sezsny must’ve been discovered. This monster discovered that its nest is in danger, so it’s going back to save it!” Oro concluded.
Xia Fei froze. This explanation made a lot of sense.
Sezsny used the warriors to draw the Divine Beast’s attention and then went underground to look for what he wanted!
If this was true, he might have already succeeded!
Xia Fei suddenly had an idea.
*Whoosh~*
One of Peacock Blue’s giant blades of grass tightly wrapped around one of the Divine Beast’s body segments, allowing the Blackscaled Axeblade to drag Xia Fei and Furball into the ground with it.
...
It was like an artificial tunnel. The Blackscaled Axeblade had lived in this canyon for so long that the ground had been completely excavated. His massive body moved rapidly into the depths.
The Blackscaled Axeblade was joining together more and more of his segments as he rushed along, truly becoming like a long train, though one without windows or wheels.
Xia Fei used Peacock Blue to attach himself to the beast’s body and follow right behind the Blackscaled Axeblade. The monster was in a hurry and cared little for its extra passengers. It had something that was far more important.
The planet that the Ancient Battlefield was established on was very large; in fact, it was one hundred times the size of Earth! Xia Fei followed the Blackscaled Axeblade for a dozen or so minutes before the beast finally stopped.
*Whoosh~*
Xia Fei broke away from the exotic beast’s body and jumped upward, agilely climbing onto a giant stalactite. He lightly pressed on his armor, turning on the darkness support system, allowing him to look around this pitch-black cave.
Enormous!
This cavern was as enormous as the ocean!
Even the Blackscaled Axeblade’s body of one hundred kilometers long was unremarkable in this place. The rumbling sound was at its maximum volume here, for the Divine Beast was in a frenzy. He was furious, mad, and howling as he moved at high speeds!
“What a guy! This is like another world!” Oro said solemnly. “From what I could tell, the Darkpearl Clan has probably figured out long ago that this place is hiding some secret, but as this monster has been faithfully guarding it, they couldn’t get at the treasure.
“After many years of meticulous preparation, Sezsny, this junior of the Darkpearl Clan, arrived at the Ancient Battlefield, amassed a large force to cover for him, and stealthily made his way here to get what he wanted by taking advantage of the chaos. That’s why the monster is so furious!”
Xia Fei agreed with Oro’s analysis, and it matched with his own, but all analysis was irrelevant at this stage. What was important was how to find Sezsny and seize his treasure.
This planet was so vast and the cave network so complex that finding him was easier said than done. According to psychological analysis, if Sezsny really did succeed, he was probably getting as far away from this place as possible right now!
The Blackscaled Axeblade furiously circled the cavern. Suddenly, he seemed to discover something and burrowed even deeper into the ground.
Xia Fei released his grip and dropped from the ceiling. The rumbling of the Blackscaled Axeblade was fading into the distance.
“Why aren’t you following the monster? He might’ve found Sezsny!” Oro questioned.
Xia Fei shook his head, lightly saying, “Sezsny is very cunning and smart. I don’t believe that he could get in here without a way to throw off this monster’s pursuit.”
“So you’re saying this is bait?!” Oro asked.
“It must be,” Xia Fei firmly affirmed. He was very confident in his analysis and judgment.
Suddenly!
Xia Fei focused his eyes, for a most bizarre scene had begun to play out before him!
