Chapter 22

“Ah, you don’t have to come to my bedroom anymore!”

Yelena hastily left the office before she could hear a reply.

She felt a strange sense of deja vu, but she paid no mind to it.

Yelena sat down on her bed as soon as she reached her bedroom.

Her heart pounded furiously, which could be due to the adrenaline rush.

As dinner time came, peace came to Yelena as well.

‘I was quite worked up in the office earlier.’

That was possible, too, since she did it impulsively.

Yelena, blinded by anger and exhaustion, probably barged her way into his office without thinking.

However, she was all right now.

As the sun set, Yelena headed to bed early to recover from the fatigue plaguing her.

Just then, the maid, whom Yelena did not even call, rapped on her door.

“What is it about?”

“Um…”

The maid greeted Yelena politely and handed something over to her.

“What’s this?”

“It’s an ointment.”

“Hmm?”

“Master said to send this to you, Madam.”

“Why would he send this to me…” Yelena’s questions abruptly stopped. “You may leave.”

As soon as the maid left the room, Yelena hurried to the mirror.

“…”

The bump in the middle of her forehead was painfully obvious.

“Ack…!”

Yelena suppressed her scream and jumped onto her bed.

Ignoring the pain she felt when she landed face down on her bed, Yelena floundered about amongst the pillows.

***

The bump on her forehead subsided after two days, but Yelena remained in her room for another three days.

The pillows were now horribly shaped and piled in the corner of her bed after being on the receiving end of Yelena’s actions.

Yelena looked at the pillows with mixed feelings and turned her head around.

Over the past few days, she experienced a rollercoaster of emotions.

First: anger.

‘He should have said that my forehead had a bump first! Why didn’t he? Why?!’

Second: self-condemnation.

‘No, it’s my fault since I didn’t know what happened to my body. Yeah, it’s my fault…’

Third: resignation.

‘Wouldn’t people, at least once in their lives, have a bump on their head and barge into another office?’

Fourth: anger once again.

‘But, the route to the office was so long! Why didn’t anyone tell me about it before?!’

After the rollercoaster of emotions, Yelena was now calm enough not to seek her pillow as she looked at the ointment on her bedside table.

“… Phew.”

Yelena let out a sigh and got down from her bed.

It was well into the night, leaving nothing but darkness outside.

Yelena habitually touched her forehead again and headed out with a lamp in hand.

“Where are you heading to, Madam?” the guard who stood by Yelena’s bedroom door asked as she came out.

“I couldn’t sleep, so I feel like taking a walk.”

“Let me escort you since it’s quite late now.”

“It’s all right. I’ll just be walking in the hallways.”

Yelena shook off the guard and walked along the dimly lit hallway.

Moreover, as the night became darker, the hallways grew quieter.

Yelena went deep into thought while walking in the dim and desolated hallway.

‘It’s today.’

Yelena’s pink eyes sparkled as they reflected the light that shone from the lamp.

‘I’ll pounce on him tonight.’

The path Yelena took was none other than the one leading to Duke Mayhard’s bedroom.

She had been waiting for this day and had made all the necessary preparations.

Now, all she needed were two things: technique and Duke Mayhard letting down his guard.

It’d be easier to deal with a person caught off guard.

During the past five days, while Yelena was floundering in embarrassment, she had been working on her acting.

In particular, she wanted to act as though she had completely lost interest in consummating with her husband.

As if she were without regrets, Yelena acted relatively blunt in front of her husband.

Perhaps, her husband was fooled by her performance now and thought she had given up trying to consummate.

‘How naive.’

How would that be possible?

‘It’ll be the end for you tonight.’

Soon, Yelena arrived at her husband’s bedroom.

Yelena carefully opened the door to his bedroom.

She then tiptoed into the room as quietly as possible.

There was no guard on duty in his bedroom.

Though she did not know the reason, it was a good thing for Yelena.

Thanks to that, she saved the trouble of conciliating with the guard.

CLICK.

Yelena shut the door behind her.
