Chapter 190: The Professional
Chapter 190: The Professional
Fang Linyan’s face turned ugly immediately as he witnessed this scene. He shouted, “Try to search if there are any similar holes nearby!”
After some search, the group realized that the newly excavated holes were concentrated near the unusual energy light ball. Obviously, the culprit who dug the cave was aiming at the light ball.
After confirming this, Fang Linyan took a deep breath and whispered to Lieutenant Dan Kraka, “Sir, I think we’re in big trouble.”
Lieutenant Dan Kraka was stunned, “En?“
Fang Linyan said, “Look, there are a total of seven similar holes near us. These mud holes seem to have been dug out just recently, which shows that the culprit who did this has a developed digging organ. Since it can dig a hole quickly, it can also punch a hole on a person just as fast!”
“Also, it’s supposed to be underground most of the time, so our solid long-range fire suppression is pretty much useless to it. If I’m not mistaken, it can’t see, but its senses and smell functions are well-developed. It will patiently wait underground for the prey to come, and then launch an attack when the enemy is close!”
Hearing Fang Linyan’s description, Lieutenant Dan Kraka’s face turned grim. He quickly approached the hole and investigate. In the end, he had to admit that what Fang Linyan said was the truth.
At that moment, Lieutenant Dan Kraka was in a dilemma. His logical reasoning told him to retreat immediately because going forward was like a ticket asking for a total annihilation to his squad. Unfortunately, the strict orders coming from the higher-ups abstained him from leaving.
A messenger ran to him from the rear, “Sir! I’m so sorry to interrupt your conversation, I have something very urgent to report.”
Lieutenant Dan Kraka nodded, “En
, I’m listening.”The messenger said, “Just now, there’s a man who came in a hurry, claiming to be an expert in dealing with such incidents. He has a document issued by the royal family… Of course, we didn’t believe him at first. It just so happened that there was a wounded soldier sent over to us. They were painfully tortured by the formic acid, so that man started treating them, and it seemed to work pretty well.”
“Then, when he found out about the injuries of our brothers, he looked very shocked. He asked me to stop you from advancing any further, or else there will be heavy casualties. He also said that he will be here soon after treating the wounded.”
After hearing what the messenger said, Lieutenant Dan Kraka nodded, “Got it, let’s retreat to the gate with the stone slab floor first.”
About 6 minutes later, a thin figure ran over hurriedly. He seemed a little clumsy during the sprint as if he was crippled. When trotting, his posture was weird. He wore a thick khaki coat with a stand-up collar, and a khaki leather suitcase.
Then, he saw Lieutenant Dan Kraka. After slowing down, he breathed a sigh of relief, “Thank God, you didn’t enter rashly. Wherever there are Queensland flying ants, there must be chrysanthemum spiders around.”
Lieutenant Dan Kraka stepped forward and saluted him, “I’m Lieutenant Dan Kraka of the royal dragon knight. Sir, thank you for your selfless assistance to my comrades.”
This stranger looked a little cautious. He lowered his head when he spoke, “Sir, I’m Teaching Assistant Robbie who is assigned to deal with this incident. This is the identity certificate issued to me by the royal family.”
Lieutenant Dan Kraka took the identity certificate and looked at it, and said straight to the point, “Mr. Robbie, we’re in a lot of trouble right now…”
While Lieutenant Dan Kraka was explaining the situation to Mr. Robbie, Fang Linyan assessed this professional. He realized that he was probably in his twenties. He was quite slim with messy chestnut hair. There was also a birthmark the size of a palm on his face. Also, there were several stains on the khaki coat. Couple with a few holes on the gray scarf, he seemed disheveled.
Fang Linyan also noticed from his behavior and speech manner that he wasn’t a sociable person. The obvious signs were his inarticulate and stuttering. Even his eyes rarely meet other’s eyes, appearing shy and flustered.
It was just that when he mentioned these monsters that appeared in Westminster Abbey, there was an immediate change on Mr. Robbie. He became spirited and spoke enthusiastics with many jargons mixed in his words.
When Fang Linyan mentioned his speculation, Robbie immediately said with admiration, “Yes, Mr. Wrench, your reasoning is very accurate! These creatures that move underground are called chrysanthemum spiders. They usually have as many as 140 legs. The plate-shaped torso is like the stamen of a chrysanthemum, and the long legs resemble the flower’s filaments.”
“These creatures are proficient hunters and are fond of hunting Queensland flying ants – those that can jump up and spit acid. Wherever there are Queensland flying ants, you can almost be certain chrysanthemum spiders are around. If you keep going, these murderous creatures may take a liking in human flesh and blood.”
At this time, Lieutenant Dan Kraka said impatiently, “Gentlemen, this isn’t the time to discuss on insect habits. I need to get a feasible solution in 3 minutes on how to safely pass through this area where these damn spiders are lying in ambush.”
Robbie said immediately after hearing this, “You’ll get the solution soon, sir, but…”
Having said this, he hesitated for a moment, “I need to be alone for a few minutes to make preparation.”
Lieutenant Dan Kraka said seriously, “How many minutes? Please give me a specific number. Soldiers need precise and controllable values.”
Robbie said hurriedly, “Five minutes. Yes, 5 minutes is enough sir!”
Lieutenant Dan Kraka replied, “I’ll give you 8 minutes! I’ll wait for your good news.”
Robbie nodded, walked directly to the front door, and quickly disappeared into the darkness.
At this time, the rest of the team continued to wait at the gate, but Fang Linyan was obviously not a person who followed the rules. He controlled his [Drone] and used the cover of darkness to follow Robbie from a distance.
With the faint candlelight from the monastery wall, he faintly saw Robbie squatting down and wielding a small wooden stick similar to a baton in his left hand. His right hand slowly opened the leather suitcase that was lying flat on the ground. Then, he muttered something, and he suddenly tapped on it with the stick in his left hand!
All of a sudden, the small wooden stick on Robbie’s left hand emitted a dazzling light. A mysterious hoof stuck out from the leather suitcase.
The hoof was as thick as a bowl. There were layers of thick scales on them. Under the candlelight, they seemed sturdy as if they were made of brass.
Immediately after, a monster with brass scales emerged from the leather suitcase. At first glance, it looked like a wild boar weighing thousands of pounds, but its head appeared like an elephant. It had a long snout and two tusks. Its tail was more like a horse, sweeping around.
Judging from the size of this monster, it should be at least ten times the size of this leather suitcase, but it just came out of the leather suitcase easily, which was really incredible.
Robbie looked quite familiar with this monster. He kept calling out the voice of “Lulu” in his mouth. The monster, Lulu, seemed affectionate. It walked around the thin young man non-stop while wagging its head and tail excitedly.
The key was that this creature made a series of fart sounds while wagging its tail, which sounded very funny.
Robbie soothed it for a while, then he scattered some powders from his left hand. After the powders touched the ground, they turned into a lot of jumping light spots. Lulumon rushed over to eat them. After eating, it became docile as it followed Robbie to walk forward.
They only walked 50 meters, and they came to the active area of the chrysanthemum spiders. However, once Lulumon discovered the chrysanthemum spiders had drilled out the holes, it immediately snorted excitedly. Unexpectedly, it farted right into hole!
Although it appeared that Lulumon’s fart was odorless, it was only because humans hadn’t yet evolved olfactory cells that could detect it. It was like the similar principle where humans’ ears could only detect frequency between 20 Hz ~ 20000 Hz.
Consequently, as soon as the chrysanthemum spiders in the hole smelled Lulumon’s fart, they immediately jumped out in pain. Then, Lulumon slammed them to the ground with its snout. The spider’s body kept twitching on the ground. Green juice flowed from the ruptured belly. In the end, Lulumon captured the spiders with its snout and sent them into its mouth.
After Lulumon hunted 2 Chrysanthemum Spiders, it regrettably realized that no more spiders came out on its own. What a joke! These chrysanthemum spiders were patient hunters lurking in the dark rather than food sent into the mouth. With 2 of their kind dead, the remaining spiders would have fled rather than staying in this place.
