Chapter 17 - Chen Xiaoyi\'s Gratitude
Chapter 17: Chen Xiaoyi’s Gratitude
“You’re talking nonsense. I didn’t even touch you. You were already lying there; I merely helped you up,” Chen Xiaoyi knew she had encountered a scammer and tried her best to defend herself.
Panic and worry were written all over her delicate face.
“This young lady, looking so pretty, I didn’t expect her to do such a thing!”
“Exactly, exactly, looks good but with a bad heart, society these days!”
“Young lady, if you didn’t knock her down, why did you help her up? Don’t deny what you did!”
The surrounding crowd’s comments made Chen Xiaoyi’s eyes redden, almost on the verge of tears.
After all, she was just a young girl who had just graduated from college, not yet hardened by society’s harshness, unable to grasp the maliciousness of the world.
It was clear this was a professional scamming gang, one person pretending to fall, the others stirring up trouble, using insults to break the victim’s psychological defense, making a scene to extort money from the victim.
Already burdened with a huge debt, Chen Xiaoyi was extremely sensitive to any turmoil, harboring an inferiority complex within her. Suddenly encountering such a situation, despite trying to do a good deed, she was misunderstood.
The psychological pressure she bore was unimaginable.
“Three thousand, without three thousand, I can’t get up,” the spiteful old lady on the ground demanded.
Chen Xiaoyi became utterly flustered; three thousand was equivalent to her monthly salary!
“Everyone back off, or I’m calling the police.”
“Calling the police is good, let the police come and see, come and judge, hitting someone and not compensating, what kind of person does that!” The old lady became even more spirited, her expression almost saying, go ahead and call!
It seemed quite a scene.
But they dared not really call the police.
Chen Xiaoyi, unaware of the truth, was actually intimidated.
“Alright, stop making a fuss. I’ve already called the police. They said they will come soon,” Lu Li suddenly spoke up, holding his phone, surveying these people, his gaze lingering on Chen Xiaoyi’s face.
Slightly thin, with a pallor possibly due to malnutrition or recovering from a long illness, wearing a washed-out cheap jacket, her beauty couldn’t be concealed.
This woman, he decided, was his to claim in this lifetime.
What, called the police?
The faces of the people surrounding Chen Xiaoyi instantly filled with panic, especially the one lying on the ground who suddenly forgot to scream.
But they quickly regained their composure: “Good, let the police come and judge, let’s see what this young lady has to say.”
Threatening Chen Xiaoyi maliciously.
“If you don’t give me three thousand now, I definitely won’t forgive you when the police come,” the old lady on the ground also snapped back to reality, threatening Chen Xiaoyi viciously.
As for the good Samaritan Lu Li who intervened, she showed no pleasant face.
Chen Xiaoyi also snapped back to reality, though taken aback by their combined onslaught, after all, she was a woman who would eventually take control of a large company, how could she not understand by now?
Gratefully glancing at Lu Li, she turned back to the old lady on the ground and coldly said, “I won’t give you any money. Since the police are coming, let them thoroughly investigate whether you’re all in this together. There are plenty of surveillance cameras here; you can slowly explain to them.”
The scammers, seemingly unprepared for Chen Xiaoyi, who had always seemed soft and weak, to suddenly become so resolute, knew this scam had failed. They cursed a few times and dispersed; the old lady’s agility as she ran was even better than some young people’s.
Tsk tsk!
Not upset, but Lu Li gave them a few more looks of admiration. Well, these people were just scammers, not desperados.
“Sir, thank you. Cough cough.” Chen Xiaoyi approached and thanked Lu Li.
Had it not been for this gentleman, she might still be bewildered.
“It’s nothing, just happened to pass by.” Lu Li smiled warmly, his gaze on the young girl in front of him, slender, with at least a developing chest, naturally beautiful without makeup. Perhaps due to recovering from illness or malnutrition, the girl had a fragile, willowy temperament.
A truly elegant beauty.
Chen Xiaoyi gave Lu Li a faint smile: “Anyhow, thank you. I work nearby. Let me treat you to milk tea!”
“Milk tea? Sure.” Lu Li nodded, not refusing. After all, his goal was the girl before him.
The two headed to a nearby milk tea shop.
“What would you like, sir?”
“Just milk tea, with double sugar for me. And stop calling me sir; my name is Lu Li.” Lu Li smiled faintly, finding a seat. Double sugar was a habit from his previous life; like him, a man filled with misfortune in his past life, liked to eat more sweets.
Chen Xiaoyi was the only employee in the milk tea shop, the business seemed quite slow.
Chen Xiaoyi gave Lu Li a curious glance but didn’t say anything, starting to prepare the milk tea attentively. Soon after,
“Lu Li, isn’t that the name of the young master of the Lu family? Heard he’s quite the wastrel; must be a coincidence!” Chen Xiaoyi thought to herself, soon serving up a milk tea.
“Mr. Lu Li, your double sugar milk tea.”
“Thank you, I don’t know your name yet?” Lu Li casually asked.
“My name is Chen Xiaoyi. Thank you for your help earlier, Mr. Lu Li. Cough cough!” Smiling, Chen Xiaoyi couldn’t help but cover her mouth, turning aside to cough twice.
Lu Li couldn’t help but frown, pulling over Chen Xiaoyi’s hand.
“Mr. Lu Li, what are you doing? Let go of me.” Chen Xiaoyi’s expression changed, struggling. She hadn’t expected this very handsome man to suddenly act so rudely; her goodwill towards him instantly plummeted.
“Stop moving.” Lu Li suddenly scolded sternly, his face serious as he looked at the ashamed Chen Xiaoyi: “You’ve been sick before, right? And it’s that complex heart disease.”
“How did you know!” Chen Xiaoyi couldn’t help but exclaim.
So, he had noticed, no wonder…
“I know some traditional Chinese medicine.”
That wasn’t a problem. In his previous life, that damn system gave him a bunch of skills but never a chance to use them. He had the best business talent but nowhere to apply it, a wealth of medical knowledge but only letting it go to waste.
Fully trained in combat arts, but couldn’t even resist.
It shows how frustrated Lu Li was in his previous life.
Looking at Chen Xiaoyi with a serious face, Lu Li reproached: “What’s wrong with you, going out to work when you’re still not fully recovered? Do you know such disregard for your health makes it easiest to relapse?”
