Chapter 62 - 61: Such Proactive Performance is Rare_1
The constables were taken aback. They’d been in the business for years and had never seen anyone dare to provoke them so audaciously.
Guard Captain Wei shook his head and laughed. As the most experienced one, he had seen all sorts of characters. These were just a bunch of brash blokes picking a fight. Such minor cases, which practically fell into their laps, were bound to happen in a lifetime of constabulary work.
“Who’s afraid? Let’s go!”
The thieves were rubbing their hands together, ready to show their rivals what they were made of. They were newcomers, and before joining the demonic sect, they couldn’t just make their name by stealing things. It was time to make a grand entrance!
Then the thieves saw a group of constables, carrying government-issued sabers and waist cards indicating their identities, bustling in.
The constables were taken aback at the sight of the heap of gold, silver, jewelry, rare medicinal herbs, and spirit crystals on the table.
Why did these look so familiar, like someone had reported them stolen not long ago?
The constables:
Guard Captain Wei:
The thieves:
“Do you believe me if I say I found these on the street?”
Guard Captain Wei had never seen such a thing. These criminals were walking right into their trap.
The delinquent, oblivious to what was unfolding, was still egging his boss on.
“Boss, teach them a lesson!”
As he was yelling, he also threw out a threat: “Do you see my big brother’s sparse hair? For every person he kills, he pulls out one hair! People on the streets call him Mr. Trouble!”
“Do you see this guy with the eye patch? This is my second brother. He lost his eye in a fight with a powerful figure at the late stage of Foundation Establishment. That guy didn’t fare well either, his two eyes were both blinded by my second brother! People on the streets call him Desperate ErLang!”
“Do you see my third brother’s leg? He got that when he was surrounded by over a hundred royal guards while stealing from the palace. He escaped at the cost of his leg! People call him Flying on the Grass!”
The Boss, Old Two, and Old Three simultaneously kicked the junior thief flat on his face. This youngster talked too much.
“So you were saying anyone who didn’t show up was a coward?” Guard Captain Wei clenched his teeth into a sinister grin. It was because of these guys he had been stuck with night shifts.
“I’m the coward, I’m the coward.” The thief Boss trembled with fear.
The thieves didn’t dare to fight back. Seeing the entrance blocked by the constables, they crashed through the wall and ran away. Their gang spilled into the main hall with a great noise.
The group’s strength resided in speed rather than head-on fighting ability. Not to mention none of them had reached the Foundation Establishment Stage, and the Boss was only at the Ninth Level of Qi Training.
“You go through the main door, the rest, follow me through the back!” The thief Boss ordered his men to scatter and run.
Lu Yang noticed the commotion and quickly figured out the situation, finding it somewhat amusing.
“A thief and the constables separated by a single wall, and the thief provokes the constables?”
“Wait, they’re trying to escape from the backyard. What if the Ghoul is discovered by the constables?”
Lu Yang quickly realized the problem. If Ghoul was captured, who would take care of the barbecues? How could he continue running his barbecue joint or keep an eye on Qin Yuanhao?
Thief Boss _ seeing Lu Yang block the backdoor as if he’d been scared silly _ reached out to toss Lu Yang aside urgently.
Lu Yang was holding a bowl of noodle soup. Seeing the intimidating Boss storming towards him, his hands trembled and the noodle soup spilled out.
The thief Boss didn’t anticipate this and reflexively erected a shield of spiritual energy to block the noodle soup.
However, this tiny distraction was enough for Guard Captain Wei to bring out a bundle of iron chains. Like a slithering snake, the chains coiled around the thief Boss.
“Go, get all the rest! Our dinner tonight is well earned.” Guard Captain Wei’s mood instantly improved. He felt refreshed and the world seemed brighter.
The gang of thieves, which had been a nuisance for many days, had finally been captured. What a streak of good luck indeed.
Guard Captain Wei clapped Lu Yang on the shoulder, chuckling, “If it wasn’t for you blocking just now, this kid would have gotten away for sure!”
“Heroic actions deserve praise. Just wait, I’ll send you a banner of honor tomorrow!”
Lu Yang quickly waved his hand, saying it was unnecessary, but Guard Captain Wei was insistent on sending one.
The constable and the thieves had caused a huge commotion just now, damaging the wall and turning the whole hall into a chaotic mess filled with dust and debris.
The patrons had no choice but to leave early. They felt it was not a loss though, as witnessing the capture of a thief by a constable was quite thrilling.
“This barbecue restaurant is really something. Even sitting down at a table, the constables can catch criminals.”
“It’s worth coming, you can’t see this exciting drama even with money.”
“This place must be an epicenter of good fortune. The business gets booming in such a short period of time. The delicious food alone can’t justify it. It must have something to do with good luck.”
“We all saw it today. The fact that the constable could capture a person here proves my point.”
“I need to come here more often and see if I can also get lucky.”
“Makes sense, let’s come together next time.”
Listening to the fading discussions of people, Lu Yang felt pessimistic about the future of the barbecue restaurant. It seemed destined to expand significantly.
“When I bring over the banner of honor tomorrow, I’ll also include the funds for the wall repair!” Guard Captain Wei waved at Lu Yang and left those words behind before escorting the unfortunate thieves away.
Lu Yang stood at the door, sighing a little, and suddenly noticed Qin Yuanhao leaving his residence again.
“Brother Lu, Qin Yuanhao has left his house again.” Man Gu relayed from the second floor, he was very dedicated to his job, not caring about the happenings downstairs and closely watching Qin Yuanhao’s movements.
“I see, you and Meng Jingzhou fix the broken wall together. I’ll go follow Qin Yuanhao.”
“Sure.”
Lu Yang used his short-distance teleportation skill to catch up with Qin Yuanhao again.
Meng Jingzhou sighed from behind, “Lu Yang’s talent for magic is really strong. I have studied with him for a long time, but I haven’t learned anything.”
“And, I somehow feel that the mantra he taught me has something to do with space magic, is it my imagination?”
Meng Jingzhou didn’t ponder over this question too much. Describing Lu Yang’s magic talent as “outrageous” wasn’t overstating. Hoping to learn magic from him was purely daydreaming.
If he, being a Single Body Spiritual Root, couldn’t achieve it, then it would be even more impossible for others.
Lu Yang followed Qin Yuanhao for a long distance, and didn’t hear what Meng Jingzhou said. He observed that this time, Qin Yuanhao held himself in an imposing manner, humming a cheerful tune, as if he was off to accomplish some significant task.
Qin Yuanhao arrived at a large house and didn’t knock on the door. Instead, he cast a spell in front of the door.
Soon, a skinny and tall man came out who asked, “Is it that day?”
“It is indeed today.”
“I’ve been preparing for today for a whole half a month.”
“Who isn’t, I’m desperate to make a move, I’ve been stifled these days! After we succeed this time, you must help me make some good publicity. Let’s see who dares to look down on me!” Qin Yuanhao revealed a cruel smile as he spoke.
“Absolutely, absolutely,” the tall and skinny man bore an infamous reputation for being a gossip in Yanjiang Rudder.
The two men had a conversation which outsiders wouldn’t understand, their laughter was somewhat cold.
Lu Yang grew alert, unsure about what the pair was plotting.
The two men walked into a bustling district, where one brightly decorated building stood out among others.
Qin Yuanhao and the tall skinny man walked in, greeted with warm hospitality.
Lu Yang looked up at the sign of the place—it was a brothel.
