Chapter 119 - 119 Scary Late Night
Qiao Yin was scared, she dared not walk by the lake, so she deliberately chose a footpath a bit further from the water.
As she walked, she checked her phone for taxi availability – -no cars were around.
The streetlamp above flickered twice, then abruptly turned off, startling her.
The light turned pitch black.
In horror films, these were strong signs of a murderous ghost’s appearance.
Qiao Yin regretted her habit of watching horror films while forcing herself to continue walking.
Suddenly, a shadow began to stir in the bushes ahead.
At first, she thought it was just the vegetation swaying in the wind, but a moment later, the shadow seemed to detach itself from its original spot and drifted towards her!
Under the dim moonlight, the shadow was large, with a long neck, reminiscent of some malevolent specters from the movies.
What about its head?
How come it didn’t have a head?!
Just as the headless shadow was about to collide with her, she screamed in fear but ended up crashing into a familiar embrace.
The next second, she was held tight.
Her fear gradually subsided, and an indifferent voice came from above her head, “It’s a black swan from the artificial lake, not a demon or ghost. You should watch fewer horror movies.”
Qiao Yin shivered slightly, “How did you know I watch horror movies?”
“Our home TV’s playback history is filled with those kinds of films.”
A few days ago, he wanted to watch a documentary about the Corporation, but when he turned it on, the playback history immediately pulled up the last-viewed movie, shocking him with a gruesome ghost accompanied by eerie music on the giant screen.
When he checked the viewing history, it was filled with similar horror movies!
He never knew she had such a hobby.
Qiao Yin had already snapped back to reality and immediately pushed Lu Lingche away.
She didn’t dare to stay in his arms for too long. His embrace was too warm, too sturdy. His voice was too deep, too melodious. She was afraid she might fall for him again if she’s not careful.
She didn’t want Lu Lingche to be nice to her, not even a tiny bit.
Only if he were crueler could she be just as ruthless.
Otherwise, how could she claw her way out of this abyss of loving him and move on to a new life?
“Why are you back? Didn’t you leave?”
“Get in the car, I’ll take you home.”
“No need.”
“Still stubborn?”
“I don’t want to ride in your car, you should leave.”
She really wanted to cut off all ties with him, but things never go as planned.
She turned to walk away, but Lingche pulled her back coldly and lifted her up.
Qiao Yin exclaimed, “Lu Lingche, what are you doing? Put me down!”
Lu Lingche held her, walking to the edge of the artificial lake, “What did you say just now? Say it again!”
Looking at the pitch-black surface of the lake, Qiao Yin was too scared to repeat her demand. If she said “Put me down,” Lu Lingche could literally drop her into the lake.
But Lu Lingche loosened his grip slightly, “Let you go? Who knows what water ghosts or demons hide in this lake. If you fall in, a water ghost might quickly cling to your neck, pulling you down to the bottom. No matter how you’d struggle, it would be futile. You’d suffocate and only a pile of bones would be wrenched up from the water.”
Frightened, Qiao Yin clasped his neck, “Stop talking!”
“Someone died in this lake, do you know that?”
“I don’t know! And I don’t want to know! Shut up!”
“A woman was lured to this artificial lake by her husband’s mistress and pushed into the water. She drowned. She was pregnant when she died. She didn’t accept her fate and turned into an evil spirit seeking revenge. She pulls any beautiful woman who approaches the lake at night, to keep her and her child company in death.”
Fear pitched Qiao Yin’s voice, “I’m not beautiful.. I’m not beautiful at all! She won’t want me!”
