Chapter 9 - A Truth That Keeps You Guessing
In the original Earth, Chu Chu had died in a car accident. The driver responsible for the accident was Lin Xuyang. However, Chu Chu’s accident wasn’t just any ordinary car accident.
At the time, over a dozen witnesses had seen Lin Xuyang deliberately running over Chu Chu with his car. The surveillance cameras on the street had also captured the entire incident clearly.
Afterward, when Qin Feng learned the truth, he sought justice for Chu Chu, only to discover that the surveillance footage had been deleted. The authorities forcibly explained that the camera malfunctioned and didn’t record the scene.
Even though the camera operators confirmed that the equipment was functioning properly before the accident, and that the footage had been intentionally erased, the authorities ignored their claims.
Despite the testimony of more than a dozen witnesses identifying Lin Xuyang as deliberately running someone over, the authorities did not accept their statements.
As a result, Lin Xuyang was released without charge, and the case was dismissed as a regular traffic accident.
This was all due to the wealth and influence of Lin Xuyang’s family. They had powerful connections in business, the criminal underworld, and even the political arena.
Qin Feng refused to accept this outcome. He searched everywhere for evidence, but the Lin family secretly persecuted him, and he narrowly escaped death several times. During those years, he experienced all the bitterness life had to offer and developed a deep hatred for the Lin family.
In his investigation, Qin Feng discovered that Lin Xuyang had an older brother studying abroad named Lin Tianyang.
However, he never understood why Lin Xuyang had gone out of his way to run over Chu Chu in broad daylight. It felt like an execution, a way to silence someone.
But Chu Chu was just a thirteen-year-old girl with no connection to Lin Xuyang before the accident. The two had never even met.
What kind of secret was hidden behind all of this? Qin Feng could never figure it out.
But none of that mattered anymore.
What mattered now was that in this world, Lin Tianyang had appeared, meaning that Lin Xuyang would also show up.
No matter why Lin Xuyang had run over Chu Chu in the past, in this life, Qin Feng had to kill him before he could act.
He wouldn’t let Lin Xuyang hurt Chu Chu again. He would also repay the Lin family for all the suffering they had caused him.
On Earth, Qin Feng had been an orphan and had no means to confront someone as powerful as Lin Xuyang. But in this parallel world, everything had changed.
He was confident that he could exact his revenge.
“In two days, Chu Chu is scheduled to patrol outside the city. That’s also the day of the car accident. Will Lin Xuyang appear on that day too?” Qin Feng pondered. “It looks like I need to break through to become an Elementalist quickly.”
Qin Feng was eager to improve his strength to deal with whatever the future might hold.
In the original world, Lin Xuyang’s family was wealthy and powerful.
In this world, his family would surely have great influence as well, possibly even possessing several Elementalists. Not to mention Lin Xuyang’s older brother, Lin Tianyang, who already became an Elementalist.
Thinking about this, Qin Feng felt a sense of urgency and could no longer sleep. He looked down at Chu Chu, who was sleeping soundly beside him, a sweet smile on her face, making her look endearing and lovable.
Silently, Qin Feng sat up and began meditating. He needed to condense the Wind God Seal as soon as possible and become an Elementalist. Only then could he better protect Chu Chu.
The night passed quietly. Qin Feng spent the entire night cultivating without rest.
The next morning, when he opened his eyes from meditation, a trace of joy could be seen in his gaze.
After a night of cultivation, he had made significant progress, and the outline of the Wind God Seal had already begun to take shape within him. At this pace, he was confident he could break through within ten days.
This was the advantage of having peerless talent. An average person with mediocre talent would take two or three years of training to achieve the same result.
Though pleased with his progress, Qin Feng felt tired after a night of intense cultivation, so he decided to take a short nap.
When he woke up, he saw Chu Chu playing with his phone. “Brother, you’re awake! This phone is so much fun!”
Qin Feng glanced at the time. It was a little after 9 a.m., and a breakfast that Chu Chu had prepared was already laid out on the table. The little girl had always been well-behaved.
“The day after tomorrow is the patrol day,” Qin Feng thought, feeling a growing sense of urgency.
“Do you like this phone, little one?” Qin Feng asked suddenly.
“Of course, I like it!”
“Then I’ll get you one.”
Chu Chu was shocked. “Brother, this phone is really expensive! It costs over 200,000 on the market. How can we afford that?”
Qin Feng smiled. “I don’t have the money, but I have a way to get another one.”
Chu Chu blinked her big eyes, clearly skeptical.
Qin Feng chuckled. “Little one, I’ll bring you a phone this afternoon.”
Without waiting for her response, Qin Feng went to wash up.
“Brother, I’m going to quit my job. I still have a month’s wages held by the factory. Don’t forget to eat breakfast after you finish washing up!” Chu Chu happily placed the phone back on the table and headed out the door.
Chu Chu worked at a factory that processed beast hides, where she washed the pelts of fierce beasts using boiling water and nitrates. It was grueling work, so naturally, she didn’t want to give up a month’s salary.
After finishing breakfast, Qin Feng took a taxi to the city’s central square. He was determined to get Chu Chu a phone.
Phones in this era were luxury items, costing over 200,000 on average. Qin Feng only had a little over 20,000 credits, not nearly enough to buy one. But he had other methods.
Of course, Qin Feng didn’t intend to get a phone just for Chu Chu to play with; it was mainly to stay in contact during her patrol to prevent them from getting separated.
An hour later, Qin Feng arrived at the city’s administrative building. The place was already bustling with people, many of them wearing expressions of joy. Most of them were here to upgrade their identity status.
As soon as Qin Feng entered, he overheard enthusiastic discussions.
“Did you see yesterday’s news about Lin Tianyang?”
“Yeah! That Lin Tianyang is amazing!”
“At just 24 years old, he’s already become an Elementalist. Unbelievable!”
“Haha! That’s what you call a genius!”
“The Lin family is a powerful clan. They have no shortage of resources for cultivation. And with Lin Tianyang’s talent, his future achievements are unimaginable!”
Everyone seemed to be full of admiration for Lin Tianyang.
Qin Feng frowned slightly. He was not fond of anyone from the Lin family.
“I also heard that Lin Tianyang has a younger brother. What was his name again? Lin Xuyang…”
Hearing this, Qin Feng perked up and listened carefully.
So, Lin Xuyang does exist in this world after all…
