Chapter 176 - Family In Distress.
The whole Xin family was left baffled and apprehensive as Zhenyi\'s condition worsened all of a sudden. Though for Long Jie, it was like his heart stopped beating inside his chest. It was not tough for Long Jie only but every person related to her.
Even the Long family seemed to be more on edge. Long Shaoming was disturbed, perhaps even more anxious than any other member of his family with the exception of Long Jie, and was praying fervently for Zhenyi to wake up. It was not like he genuinely cared about her but if she died, the relations between the two failed would be worse than ever.
However, the same couldn\'t be said for Grandmother Mian (Long Jie\'s grandmother). She was genuinely worried about Zhenyi. She stood outside Zhenyi\'s room and saw Ming Jia sitting along with her daughter. Of course, she knew Ming Jia as she along with Tang Reine were friends with her eldest son who was now dead.
"Auntie?" Ming Jia\'s gaze fell on Grandma Mian.
She smiled and patted her head lovingly. "How are you, Jia?"
"I\'m good. How are you?" questioned Ming Jia. She didn\'t remember when was the last time she saw the elderly woman. It was before she left for abroad, right? She was feeling so guilty right now but they said what could you do except killing yourself with guilt for the things that had never been in your hands.
"I\'m doing quite well," said the elderly woman with a chuckle but Ming Jia knew that she was struck with endless grief. The death of her son had immensely affected her. It not only affected her but Tang Reine too. She and he were like the best of buddies but his death changed many things.
Ming Jia hugged her and wept. "I\'m sorry, Auntie. I couldn\'t come to meet you all these years. I know Ah- Shaan will never forgive me for leaving his mother alone. But…"
"I know, child. These years have been hard on you. " Grandma Mian was not the one to blame anyone for anything. She knew after her son\'s death how the dynamics of two families changed to even more unpleasant than before
" That\'s your daughter?" Grandma Mian asked as both of them turned towards Aria who was watching them with curious eyes.
Ming Jia nodded. "Aria, that\'s your Grandma Mian, greet her."
Aria greeted her like the good girl she was.
"How\'s Zhenyi?" Grandma Mian asked them.
"We don\'t know yet. She was fine two days ago but all of a sudden her condition started deteriorating and even doctors can\'t say anything until now," Ming Jia informed.
Grandma Mian sighed. " Reine had led a very hard life. She was burdened with very heavy responsibilities at such a young age and no matter how much she tried to ease her children\'s childhood, she was not able to. Zhenyi\'s life is not easy either and now she is fighting with death all alone. God forbid if something happens to her, how will Long Jie cope? I can\'t watch Long Jie ending himself as Xin Yichen did all those years ago."
Ming Jia shuddered as the memories hit her like the gust of wind. "No auntie, let\'s not talk about that time, please." She wouldn\'t dare to imagine that time ever. It was forbidden to talk about it in the Xin residence. Nonetheless, that was not a pleasant period of time at all. Ming Jia paused and after gathering the courage that she most certainly needed, she continued. "Nothing will happen to our Zhenyi. She will be alright. She came back to us when we didn\'t even think that she ever would, but she did in the end. Let\'s pray for the best."
She agreed. Grandma Mian truly wanted to see Zhenyi leading a happy and fulfilling life that her mother was not able to live. Her grandson didn\'t have the best life either but he seemed to have changed a lot after meeting her. She loved both of them too much to ever wish for them to be separated.
They were made for each other and she really, really prayed that God wouldn\'t take this chance away from them.
"Where is Ryuu?" Grandma Mian looked here and there but couldn\'t find him. She and Ryuu had been more connected to each other than anyone had ever reckoned. She was hoping to find him as she wanted to have a very important talk with him.
Ming Jia let out a painful smile. "Isn\'t our Ryuu the most unluckiest sometimes, he couldn\'t be with his family when he needed them the most? We can\'t even imagine how it will be affecting him but what can we do? If not for Reine\'s bizarre fondness for secrets, perhaps we would have lost Ryuu too."
Grandma Mian understood that Ryuu was somewhere around them but couldn\'t come out. She really felt terrible for that kid, but she couldn\'t say anything about it because Tang Reine was right all along.
They just sat on the sofa and waited for the doctor to come out but seeing the running and anxious nurses, they knew that the doctors still didn\'t have any answers for them like always.
"Auntie, you came alone?" questioned Ming Jia in an attempt to change the topic.
"No, Lily came with me."
"What?" Ming Jia said in shock. She schooled her expression and said, " She better not start or utter anything that she shouldn\'t, otherwise I swear that I will beat that spoiled princess. All these years have passed but her princess syndrome has yet to leave."
Grandma Mian shrugged her shoulders as if she was not involved in it and left with Ming Jia. The argument between Ming Jia and Song Lily was inevitable because both of them had one thing in common -- Tang Reine.
One person loved Tang Reine to the death and other hated her existence to the core.
----
"Bro, will she be alright?" Aria asked Sam as she placed her head on his shoulder.
Sam was supposed to leave a few days ago for the mission Ryuu had assigned him for but due to Zhenyi\'s sudden worsening condition, he refused to leave so soon and Ryuu didn\'t insist. She mattered a lot to both of them.
"She has to come back to us, kiddo. Moreover, where else would she go? Do you think the grim reaper wants her? Definitely not." Sam had been trying to lighten up Aria\'s mood but he also knew it was not working at all, but what else could he do? Accept that he was scared and he had no answers for his sister.
Zhenyi, Sam and Aria grew up together. After Zhenyi\'s kidnapping incident, Xin Yichen left the country with her and didn\'t come back for a long time. Ryuu lived with his grandparents here in this country but Xin Yichen never let him ever feel that he had been far from him. Zhenyi and Sam grew up like siblings and Aria had been so little back then and so she was like a baby to them.
Although, Zhenyi didn\'t remember then that she had lost a baby sister, yet she loved Aria like she had loved that sibling of hers.
Thus, the relationship between them could be defined as if they were siblings.
Her health had put everyone in great distress. She had more enemies that one could count but she was lucky enough to get the best family in the whole wide world.
----
"Dad?" Xin Yichen said, startled as his gaze fell on his father. A nurse was pushing his wheelchair towards him.
" Yichen, I\'m still alive but you dared to hide such a news from me, do you think that I\'m dead?" Xin Yanmo said, seething. How could he not know that something was wrong in his house, given the way everyone was behaving around him these days? He wouldn\'t forgive his son for hiding that his precious granddaughter was hurt so badly.
"Dad, you know that was not my intention--"
"If anything happens to her Yichen, I will turn the world upside down. Mark my words!"
Xin Yichen knew that his father was not joking. He would literally turn the world upside down if something were to happen to Zhenyi.
Three days ago, when he and Long Jie were arguing over another matter none of them had expected a doctor to come running towards them and inform them of her worsening condition. They left everything there and ran towards her room. They were helpless as they couldn\'t do anything but see her losing hope in front of them.
"Dad, doctors are trying their best. Zhenyi will be alright," assured Xin Yichen, but he didn\'t know who he was trying to assure his father or him.
God forbid, if something happened to either of his children, how would he live? He couldn\'t even imagine his life with them gone.
