Chapter 603 - Classifying Jon

Chapter 603 - Classifying Jon

"That’s a tower that can block a dragon ramming their body against it." Jon said.

"Indestructible?"

"... ish. It draws its power from an Elder Scroll since its actual power is to process the Data of the Elder Scrolls. I designed it based on those ancient shrines from the times of the Three Banners War. It can also be used to cast Tonal Spells on a mass scale."

"That’s dangerous! I think it would be rated as a Daedric Artifact. Minor risk level since it is not mobile and only acts as a defensive structure." Quaranir recorded in his scrolls.

"I see. The tower is still not complete so I’ll start researching on adding teleportation capabilities then." Jon recorded on his tablet.

Quaranir looked at him with unamused eyes and scratched "Minor" to "Major".

"Alright, let’s move on to the next location." Jon took out his staff and clicked twice on the ground before a portal started to form by tearing apart the void.

"Wait!" Quaranir stopped Jon before he walked through, "Where is that portal leading? It is nowhere on Mundus."

"What? The almighty Psijic monk is having cold feet?" Jon asked with a smug face.

"A Psijic monk seeks knowledge before all else. Even fear can’t stop the curiosity of the Psijic." Quaranir replied with an offended face.

"After you then." Jon pointed towards his portal and Quaranir swallowed his worries and passed through.

Just as he expected, the two of them walked into the most bizarre scene of them all.

"This can’t be."

"I know, right?"

A floating island standing on the surface of a calm and motionless ocean under the twilight.

"It is my Domain." Jon said.

"A domain?" Quaranir laughed, "That thing is... it will be a disaster if you take such a thing to Mundus. And we are neither in Mundus nor Oblivion."

Indeed, Jon is storing his domain in a place that is neither the mortal world of Mundus or the alien world of Oblivion.

"It is actually the veil between Mundus and Oblivion. This sea we are standing on is the so-called water of Oblivion where all the realms float. You can say I am keeping it here at the border of the realm of the Daedric Prince Azura." Jon confessed, "So, what rating does this one have?"

"Major Anomaly."

"Damn. It seems I can do something above that just yet."

"The only thing above that is a Crisis. In other words, a world-ending trigger." Quaranir said.

"What about this Unforeseen thing. You never really explained it." Jon finally asked the question he desired.

"It means that we can’t interfere with it since it is up to the World." Quaranir answered then went on the offense, "By the way, even if you are an Arch-Wizard, you can’t just weave a portal through the worlds. Was it this staff?"

"You mean Pride?"

"Quite a catchy name."

"Its official name is the Elder Staff, made from a branch of the oldest tree in the world, a sigil stone from Oblivion as the gem, cold ebony steel from Coldharbour as the outer reinforced parts, Divine Energy from Merida, and it was all enchanted together through the combined powers of an elder scroll and the Thu’um of a Dragonborn."

Quaranir had to reboot his mind for a second there before unintentionally dropping his jaw.

"Its full name is the Elder Staff of Power and Fate by the way and its specialty is to fabricate whatever I imagine through Magic by the process of the Equal Conversion of Magicka. One can say it is the most Magicka whore staff one can ever come across."

"Major Anomaly." Quaranir just recorded what he heard.

"For Oblivion’s sake, man. Imagine combining my staff with the Heart of Lorkhan or the Mantella, for example. It can practically end the world." Jon protested.

"Unless it can do something like powering up the Numidium, it doesn’t matter what it does. Even the Numidium itself was once rated Major Anamoly before it was used by Tiber Septim."

"Meh!"

"This is not some superiority contest, you know. Depending on the scale of damage a subject can leave behind, it gets its Risk Rate."

"Alright. How about a Shadow Anomaly that consumes any shadowy subject and gains its power?"

"Minor."

"A life-eating parasite that can prey on vampires and turn its host into some sort of monstrosity?"

"Also Minor."

"A Golem of Bone that has the ability to manipulate the bones of the dead and release highly destructive Tonal attacks?"

"Minor."

"An elusive gem with the power to manifest desires and manipulate men. It can also take the form of a maiden that triggers men and women alike."

"Still Minor."

"How about a Daedric Titan with reforged scales of Cold Iron and the ability to nullify any spell that wasn’t cast by at least an Arch-Wizard."

"That’s not even an Anomaly but we know about Xikil, it is a Daedric Creature that you control. But you had to ruin it and put a Dremora on the inside, didn’t you?"

"Bad decision. I know." Jon sighed then started to smile creepily, "How about the greatest of them all."

Quaranir felt some cold shivers from Jon’s sudden attitude.

"A cat." Jon said as he held Nefertiti above his head with his two arms, "Not just a cat though... She is the Cat."

"The cat is Jon Dare’s familiar. A familiar shares the same soul as their host thus it takes the same rating as him, Unforeseen."

"FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYY!"

Jon tried to kiss Nefertiti but he was assaulted by her Myriad Claws of Annihilation before he could even get closer and she swiftly made her escape through the divine art of the Feline Shadow Step. [A/n: just trying some wuxia, never mind me.]

Even with his face worn and torn, Jon kept his wide smile as he finally managed to raise an anomaly that is above Major. Little did he care that there is no ranking, to begin with, it is just some classification for functionalities and documenting sake.

On the other hand, Quaranir has come to the conclusion of who (or what) Jon Dare is. And while the things Jon did would terrify him on any day of the year, Jon himself didn’t pose danger to the world despite the toys he horde around himself.

He could also tell that Jon kept many secrets from him and this is merely the tip of the iceberg. Still, both of them gained valuable information on one another until they were satisfied.

Why was the Psijic Order investigating Jon Dare? Because that is the only way they can get information about him.

Why would they want that kind of information? Because they take it upon themselves and the world to keep the annals of history recorded and to protect the current Kalpa from any metaphysical threat through a protocol of securing the things which can affect the timeline and only interfere at the time of great need with strict measures.

Some would even argue that the setting of the World’s Calendar by the monarchy of Valenwood at the beginning of the First Era was done by the advice of the Psijic Order so they can keep the timeline itself in order.

Their mission is as simple as those three lines: Study of the anomalous subjects, Confine the dangerous knowledge from the public, and Preserve these studies for future needs.

What they would later do with this knowledge is to either deal with threats through advising certain individuals or stepping in to deal with things themselves which is a very rare case.

Still, Jon had one question that kept lingering at the back of his mind.

"So, why don’t you guys just simply take the Eye of Magnus away?" Jon asked.

"One does not simply take the Eye of Magnus away." Quaranir replied, "We may know a little more than what you know but it is still not enough for us to efficiently contain its dangers."

"So you will wait for the disaster to fall and come to deal with it when the time comes?" Jon asked.

"Of course, not. While we may know a lot more if the Eye of Magnus was utilized, it will turn into a disaster nonetheless. Also, do you really believe that the Mages of Winterhold will simply let their discovery slip away?" Quaranir argued.

"I can pull some strings." Jon said.

"I will refrain from doing it this way. The Psijic Order doesn’t usually go out of its way and confiscate an Anomalous Subject." Quaranir refused.

"Hmph! I can name a few objects you guys keep in your vaults. The Staff of Towers if I believe you guys once had it. The Staff of Chaos as well as the Staff of Magnus." Jon said.

"Some of the objects you just named are impossible to contain. You should know that even if we confine them, they tend to escape as they are conscious of being kept in one place for too long."

"So you only keep an eye on them."

"Indeed we do."

"What else do you have?"

"That’s classified."

"Come on, don’t be a killjoy. I showed you my cat."

Quaranir held his head from Jon’s nagging.

"We also... keep a number of Sentry Mage Cats like yours on the Artaeum but none of us attempted to have such a deep Familiar bond on the level which you and your cat have." Quaranir replied with an embarrassed and shaky tone.

"I knew you people were good guys. Cat bless!" Jon said as he looked towards Quaranir with pride and admiration.

"Ehem... thank you." Quaranir nodded and saw this as an opportunity to draw more information about Jon, "We also... keep some minor artifacts that may cause cluster reactions of mayhem such as a quill that can write excellent poetry and spice up any propaganda to the point where it turns normal people into fanatics."

"No way!" Jon covered his mouth, "You guys have Feyfolken? The real Feyfolken?"

"Ehem... truth is usually shrouded with myth and legends but yes, the cursed quill is so very true despite the common belief." Quaranir confirmed with a cunning smile.

"I am about to fangirl so hard right now." Jon said.

"What about you, Sir Jon? Do you possess something as... interesting... as the Feyfolken quill?" Quaranir asked.

Jon immediately put on a wide smile that had a lot of trouble hidden behind it.

"I haven’t done this one in a bloody long time." Jon said.

He then got close to Quaranir and cunningly asked.

"Ever I told you about ’em Dragons?"
